Delta Chapter, CSU, Fresno: The Delta chapter was established on September 20, 2003. It started off with three founding mothers whom started the search for women on campus who were interested in joining Upsilon Kappa Delta. They were determined to see the sorority flourish with women of all shapes and sizes, who could uphold the pillars that UKD stands for; Academics, Community Service, Sisterhood, and an emphasis on Multiculturalism.Since the Delta chapter was established, seven classes have been crossed over into the sisterhood. Each class brought unique, strong women who took an oath to represent the ladies of Upsilon Kappa Delta to the best of their ability. Through out the semester our sisters take part in community service, study hours, multicultural and sisterhood events. Each event brings the sisterhood closer together as one. For community service there have been a number of events that the sisters have taken part in to help their community. During Thanksgiving, we have fed the homeless, volunteered at the Poverello house, painted over graffiti, read books to under privileged kids, set up Thanksgiving dinners for needy families, participated in the “Adopt an Angel” progam at Saint Agnes Hospital during Christmas, and most recently became volunteers at the Ronald McDonald house at Valley Childrens Hospital. Our philanthropy based undertaking is our “Baby Andrew” project. Andrew was diagnosed with Infantile Spasms, a rare form of Epilepsy, at the tender age of three months. We have helped his family by raising money for his medical bills, equiptment, food, gasoline, bills, as well as cooked for the family while he was in the hospital. We do plan on continuing to help baby Andrew and his family. For academics we push each other through out the semester to stay on the right path towards our academic goal, to graduate from Fresno State. Each week we have study hours that are assigned to us and we usually meet in the library where we can study, work on assignments, etc. We help each other out as much as possible to make sure we all do our best in school. For multiculturalism, we are required to attend at least three different events on or off campus. During the semester there are usually events held by other organizations for us to attend. There is Cinco de Mayo celebrations on campus, Asian-American week, Dia de Los Muertos, and other events that happen during the spring and fall semesters. We also look off campus for other opportunities to experience other cultures. Fresno City College holds a Chinese festival in the spring and there are foreign films that play in the Tower theatre. Sisterhood is also part of our pillars. It gives us a chance to get together and hang out all year round. Each month we get to celebrate whichever sister’s birthdays take place. They get to choose what they want to do; Movie night, dinner, bowling, or even ice skating. These are the times we can get together and enjoy each others company and grow closer together as sisters. Upsilon Kappa Delta Multicultural Sorority Inc. is run by women who want more then just the average college experience. We are women who want to do well in school, better our community, and better ourselves. Each sister of the Delta chapter has brought their own unique spirit to the sisterhood. We start off as strangers, but end up as sisters for life. Upsilon Kappa Delta is a “Sisterhood 2 Tight 2 Break.”To contact the Delta chapter please e-mail:
